Hi friends!

Exciting news - I'm launching the pilot program of Business of Biodiversity, in partnership with the Odonata Foundation.

So what is it?
A six month course for environmental champions within the private sector, who want to find ways to connect their business to nature-centred solutions. This course will connect your capital and community efforts with meaningful and measurable nature-centred solutions.

By the end of this program you will have 3 shovel-ready projects to pitch to your CEO or team, and the confidence and connections to make it a reality.

The pilot is free to join, but future programs will be upwards of $3000. All businesses are welcome, but the bigger the better - as that will drive even greater impact. We already have almost half the places filled already, so don't dilly dally if you're interested in joining us.

Business of Biodiversity pilot

Every business can work alongside nature, using your specific skills, talent and location to make an impact for nature, whilst also being profitable.

By the end of the Business of Biodiversity pilot program, you will have three projects to pitch to your CEO or team. We will endeavour to actively set your organisation up with environmental partners and projects that align with your objectives. You will be part of real world impact on threatened species, you can reposition your brand with key environmental causes, and at the end of the course, you will join our alumni program and growing network of business change-makers.

How to know what you really want

Check out this 5-minute video from Big Think, where Luke Burgis breaks down thick vs. thin desires and introduces the concept of mimetic desires.

These mimetic ones? They're like copycats, influenced by people around us - like family and friends etc. But they're fleeting, and often not worth the fuss. On the other hand, you've got the heavy hitters - thick desires. These line up with your core truths, like growth, beauty, kindness. Burgis says - dig into your life and recall those moments that lit you up. Find patterns that show what you're really after.

Lately, when I'm pulled a certain way, I try and identify if it's a thick or thin desire. And that's how I decide where to put my energy.

The inefficiency of petrol

I came across this article (cool Substack too, called Sustainability by Numbers), outlining just how shockingly inefficient the internal combustion engine is.

It describes how for every dollar of petrol you put (US$, but the point is the numbers not the currency), you get just 20 cents’ worth of driving motion. The other 80 cents is wasted along the way – most of it as heat from the engine.

Electric cars are much better at converting energy into motion. For every dollar of electricity you put in, you get 67 cents of driving motion plus another 22 cents of energy that’s recovered from regenerative braking. That means you get 89 cents’ worth out.

Saving the world is now cheaper than ruining it
