Who produces your coffee?

For a while there, I thought I was doing a good thing buying my coffee beans from a local roaster at our tiny farmers market. But when I asked the roaster where he sourced his beans from, and what working conditions and wages the workers were paid - he couldn’t tell me. He was so small that he couldn’t afford to buy fair trade beans. That made me turn to the internet to do some research. After all, I invest my money in clean banks, have ethically invested super, buy toilet paper from social enterprises, and look for the most environmentally friendly suppliers in most things that I do - but somehow something I drank every day had escaped my radar.

The internet told me there are six B Corp Certified coffee roasters in Australia. I settled on 23 Degrees Coffee - a female-owned B Corp certified coffee roaster in Melbourne. I can buy organic, fair trade coffee that supports female growers. I made a list of the B Corp coffee businesses in Australia, so you can choose the right one for you.
