ISSUE 66 | 16 July 2024
Hi friends!
A blast of sunshine late last week saw me slam my laptop shut and race out to my rather neglected garden. I built a new bed, planted some wisteria, weeded the vegie gardens - and then the arctic winds hit again, and it was back inside for another cold Melbourne week. We've just electrified our old cottage with the help of Goodbye Gas, so it's a bit of a change to swap moving firewood from pile to pile to just switching on a split system - but I'm sure the health and environmental benefits will be well worth it!
Stay warm!

My why is a pretty big statement: I'm in business to bring back nature. But I was never interested in photography when I was an environmental scientist (career 1). I figured I would get a corporate job, and stay there until I retired - probably just because I never had role models in my life growing up that ran their own businesses.
I recently had a chat with Peppermint magazine about my journey to now, and where I want to see my future efforts land.
It's Plastic Free July, and I found a great article (old but still totally relevant) on 22 tips for going plastic free.
Some of my favourite plastic free products I use daily are my copper water bottle, ceramic coffee cups, kitchen containers from Seed & Sprout, electric rechargeable lighter for around the house, and bamboo toothbrushes. I also just put in a pre-order for a beautiful ceramic water filter by Kyn & Folk. I've been shopping at Mutual Muse recently, a second hand store that prioritises natural fibres like wool and linen - it's important to reduce plastics in our wardrobes too.
If you're in Melbourne and want to meet some like-minded people, or just want to find out more about 1% For the Planet, come along to the first community meet up, hosted by Optimising.
It's next Thursday 25th July from 5-8pm at 4 Pines, Welcome to Brunswick (408 Sydney Rd, Brunswick VIC).
