Sanctum Homes, SIPs extension

Builder: Sanctum Homes

Location: Wurundjeri country (Warrandyte, VIC)

Stylist: Belle Hemming

Renovated to become more at one with its location, this house is now an energy-efficient super structure.

Bringing nature inside is what this eco-friendly house and its recent extension, designed by Yvette herself, is all about - hoth physical presence and sustainable building solutions.

That green emphasis is not surprising, as she and husband Jason own Smash Enterprises, which established Nude Food Dav in Australian schools. It aims to eliminate supernuous packaging while promoting environmentally friendlv lunchboxes and drink bottles.

And that's why thev chose builder Famish White of Sanctum Homes to remodel theirs. "Hamish shares our passion for the environment." savs Yvette. "As a result, the build is so well insulated and airtight that we hardly need an heating or cooling. It's kind to the environment and cost-effective" - Chris Pearson for Inside Out.

Who lives there: Yvette, Jason and their three kids Odin, Phineus, Freya + their dog Axel

Why they chose Sanctum Homes:  ”I had read a little bit about the SIPS and loved the idea of them but not many builders are experienced in constructing them. Then one day I was chatting to our local friend and builder, Hamish from Sanctum, I discovered he was not only experienced in SIP construction, he also had a passion for passive and sustainable builds that work with the environment we live in. I quickly found out we have very similar taste, so the ideas I had, he built on and cld bring to life what I cld visualise, adding his own flare and ideas also.”

What we did: Remove the existing carport and built an enclosed garage with a new rumpus/games/television and break out room on top. On the back of the garage we built a new laundry which also acts as a servery/bar that leads out on to the new deck and entertaining area

Sustainability: High performance panelised super structure: CLT floor and SIP walls and roof. uPVC double glazed tilt and turn windows. High quality breathable external building wraps to the roof and walls.
